It is called TalkinPics and was made exclusively for Media HRC. TalkinPics is based on a paper book, in original called “Pokazownik”.

TalkinPics is a set of various images that come in handy while traveling to foreign countries. You don’t have to speak any foreign language, you can just search for a desired image, tap it to enlarge it and show it to someone.

As mentioned at the beginning, TalkinPics is an iPhone version of a book. Application was prepared in close cooperation with Media HRC – we’ve worked together on refining graphics and figuring out the best navigation scheme, so TalkinPics users could have the best experience browsing and using the mobile version of the book on their mobile devices.

For the ease of searching the right image, you will find 6 categories:

transportation

food

accomodation

hygiene & clothing

health, safety, leisure

numbers, colours, weather

The use of TalkinPics does not require Wi-Fi nor any other data transfer (and it also works on other iOS devices, like iPod Touch), so you won’t be surprised by the roaming charges at the end of your trip. All of the content is on your iPhone. We would recommend it to any person that sometimes stumbles upon communication problems while travelling :-)

Bug causing crashes when searching inside of a class is fixed

When you pressed space on a class symbol in Code Pilot and started typing your query, you could get a crash. It’s fixed now.

Letter ’s’ is not ignored in search queries anymore

I don’t even know how to comment on that. Apparently use of \s was the last bit of Perl regexp mechanism still in my mind.

A new version of Code Pilot was just released. Here’s the list of new (or made better) stuff in 1.1 with some comments. You can download the new version directly from here.

Experimental support for older Xcode versions and Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

By popular demand, we have made Code Pilot compatible with Leopard and earlier versions of Xcode. It’s still an experimental feature, so remember to try it for yourself before you buy! It’s also worth reminding, that Code Pilot’s license is user-bound, so you can use it on many computers. If you have some old machines lying around, you can use it on them without needing to buy another serial number.

Fast search field cleaning with cmd-backspace

cmd-backspace works with input search field in a smart way now – it deletes the whole query, but if you’ve selected some file or class, it let’s you stay in it and just change the query. Hitting cmd-backspace again will bring you back to project-wide search.

Auto-copying selection from current editor window into Code Pilot search field

This is something widely requested as well. If you have anything selected in your active editor window, it will be automatically entered into Code Pilot for you when you bring it up.

For multiple screen setups, Code Pilot window appears now where the currently used editor window resides

This makes working with multiple displays much easier. Code Pilot will just show on the screen you’re currently looking at ;-)

Source code files for languages not indexed by Xcode (Ruby, Python, HTML, etc) are now visible in search

Source code files for less obvious languages will be visible in project search now. This is more of a bugfix – it should work in the first place.

Symbols for these languages now visible when introspecting currently edited file

Because of the fact that Xcode doesn’t index symbols for aforementioned languages, we couldn’t include them in project-wide search. But what we’ve managed to do is let you browse symbols for currently edited file. It works in a funny way with HTML – just start editing file of this kind, then bring Code Pilot up and press space. Ruby, Python and other non-indexed languages should work the same way.

Many small fixes and improvements

The usual suspects. Like pasting into search field.

We are very happy to announce Code Pilot version 1.0. It has been a busy month for us, talking about the plugin’s functionality with the users of all eleven consecutive Beta releases. The main reason for conducting such public testing was the fact that every developer has slightly different habits, and projects vary in size and architecture, therefore the only real common denominator for all these factors is the use of Xcode IDE.

I would like to thank all our friends who helped us make Code Pilot a reality with their invaluable feedback and insightful suggestions.

We tried hard to refrain from introducing any new major features in the Beta releases, as our main goal was to make this product’s core functionality rock-solid first. However, we do have many very exciting new features scheduled for future releases, so there’s still a lot of cool things ahead of us!

To make Code Pilot’s adoption easier and give you more time to grasp the ways you may benefit from it, we have enabled the unregistered version to work without the time limits per Xcode session for a period of 10 days! After that you still can use all Code Pilot’s features within the standard limit of 15 minutes per session.

Below you can find a list of changes and tweaks introduced in all the beta versions of Code Pilot from the beginning until current version
(1.0).

We are happy to announce the release of our new product – Code Pilot for Xcode. It’s an (Xcode, obviously) plugin that brings similar behavior to what TextMate offers when searching for specific file or symbol in a project. Xcode users who are familiar with ‘Open Quickly’ option will also find it familiar. Its main advantage is however, that you can search everything that you have in your project by typing just few characters, which are fuzzy matched among the project entries (so it does not enforce prefix search, which speeds navigation a lot). Code Pilot also supports searching for symbols (methods, classes, properties, etc.) inside specific file and jump to found definition in an instant!

Hello world! You’re probably wondering what is this all about, who are these guys and why you haven’t heard of us before. Without any further ado, let us introduce ourselves; tell you what we do, where do we come from and where are we heading.

We’re from Warsaw, the capital city of Poland (which, contrary to popular beliefs does not share a common border with Switzerland).

We’ve come a long way; from our first idea for a Mac application, through the founding of this company to turning into an international Mac software vendor.

We’ve already known each other for a few years; Wojtek and Zbigniew were doing some part-time web projects earlier together, and later they met Daniel during one of the first Bootstrap events (Bootstrap events are monthly meetings organised by people with all kinds of creative ideas, from wannabe-entrepreneurs, through people who already had the execution phase behind them (successful or not), ending with profitable business owners). When we were starting this Mac thing, two of us still worked full-time, and Daniel was busy running his own web application (an online survey platform).

In late 2008 we came up with a specific idea. Perhaps it wasn’t a particularly thrilling one, but we’ve decided to create an invoicing application for the Mac (yeah, we know – boring). We had a few reasons for this:

We were Mac users. We kind of liked it, you know. Although we don’t usually dress like that.

We’ve noticed a rapidly increasing number of freelancers – designers, programmers, even lawyers – who have been switching to Macs.

There were no native Mac invoicing applications, which would comply with Polish tax and financial regulations, and the alternatives were cumbersome: Numbers/Excel sheets, FileMaker runtime applications, invoicing with Windows software under Parallels/VMWare.

Last, but not least, as developers, we always wanted to create a Mac application and this idea seemed like a good test of our skills.

We worked pretty hard for seven months, discovering Cocoa APIs, performing a lot of R&D and going through a continuous hell that was the attempt of combining our day jobs with our dream jobs. At some point, we’ve decided to verify our assumptions and perform a reality check, so we decided to give about a hundred potential future users access to the alpha, and then to a few beta versions. They liked it, and we listened to the feedback until there was nothing left to do except for releasing the final product.

Fast-forward to May 2009. Maktura 1.0 was ready (a not-so-witty pun on the Polish word for invoice, “faktura”). It met with enthusiastic response from Polish users, we received massive amounts of positive feedback and sales were good. We’ve passed the exam and we’ve had a lot of fun along.

We could finish this story at this point, but we had this crazy idea of continuing our work. Admiring the efforts of such successful Mac software vendors like OmniGroup or Panic, we’ve decided to establish our own company. A few months later, we’ve managed to find a great place for our office (you can find the pics on our Facebook profile) and Macoscope was officially launched with us on board.

During the following months, we’ve released few updates to our invoicing app (the current version is 1.2.5), got involved in some iPhone projects and plotted to conquer the world.

So, that’s the context; and here we are, with a new product, which is nearly ready-to-ship. We think you will find it interesting.

One of us, Zbigniew, is going to NSConference 2010 (Europe). If you would like to meet him, drop him an email or check out his Twitter feed.
